The Position: We are looking for a UCS Education Aid, who is willing to embrace McKinley’s mission and H.U.M.A.N values. The role of the Unaccompanied Children’s Shelter (UCS) Education Aide is to assist the classroom teacher with classroom academic and behavioral needs of all unaccompanied children. Classroom assistance includes, but is not limited to, translating instruction into the student’s primary language and small group instruction.

Compensation and Benefits:

The pay range we’re offering is $20.00- $22.00 hourly depending (Based) on experience.

Qualifications:

• Bilingual in Spanish is Required
• Bachelor's degree required 
• California Teaching Credential or Substitute Teacher Permit at hire or eligible  
• Experience working with children in a learning environment
• Familiar with Google Suite and Chromebook
• Possess superior oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills
• Able to work independently and organize multiple projects with minimum supervision
• Able to work as a team member
• Able to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professional boundaries with clients and staff
• Able to represent the agency professionally and appropriately with all constituencies
• Must pass pre-employment physical exam, TB and drug screening
• Ability to commute to various sites on and off campus
• Ability to physically restrain children (if needed)
• VACCINATIONS REQUIRED: Be able to show proof of immunization or immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases transmitted by the respiratory route, including:
  • Varicella: two doses of varicella vaccine (at least four weeks apart) OR born in the United States before 1980 with a reported history of chickenpox (verified by an adult present at the time of illness) OR titers indicating varicella immunity OR documentation from a healthcare provider verifying previous infection.
  • MMR: two doses of MMR vaccine (at least four weeks apart) OR titers indicating immunity to all three diseases.
  • Tdap: one Tdap dose.
  • Influenza: one dose annually during flu season.

Key Responsibilities:

• Follow through on intervention plans with unaccompanied children/students.
• Ability to work in several different classrooms and with varying age and grade levels.
• Will serve as substitute teacher when needed.
• Ability to build positive and appropriate rapport with unaccompanied children.
• Assist the teacher in administering the classroom curriculum.
• Provide tutoring to students in small groups or one-on-one.
• Provide one-to-one assistance for assigned students.
• Work as part of a team with the classroom teacher and other staff members
• Assist in all academic areas including physical education, music and art.
• Provide behavior management assistance to unaccompanied children including crisis intervention and physical restraints as needed.
• Set limits and intervene appropriately to meet the needs of the unaccompanied children.
• Data collection as needed.
• Other related duties as assigned.
